The diseases cause circular patches of discolored grass several inches in diameter. Gray snow mold looks like whitish cobwebs on the leaf tissue, while pink snow mold has a salmon color and appears on the crown of the plant. Often both infections occur at the same time, and in severe cases, the small spots can expand and touch each other to form large areas of damaged grass.

1. Don't make the disease feel welcome: Dormant spores of snow mold fungi like to live in thatch or under leaves, so minimize those opportunities. Keep fallen leaves off of your greens during the winter, and avoid excessive build-up of thatch on other sections of turf.
